Hoping a friend learns the unknown tonight so planning can begin....hehe. ;-)
So I chaperoned Paige's first ever field trip today! I got 2 other girls, one Ive known for about 2 years or so.....so that helped. I had all my personalities covered- one girl that could have cared less to wait for the group and kept running off- one girl that was OK seeing all the animals but was too scared to TOUCH any- and one good helper (which was MINE!). Paige did well rounding up her friends and ensuring everyone held hands, slowed down, etc. She even reminded Mikayla to "be careful near my mommy's belly, she has a baby in there!"....which I thought was sweet. Though, no child is perfect, and Paige also brought along 2 major melt-downs....which Im sure if I were NOT there, would not have happened. One she got a pebble in her shoe (total sobfest), the 2nd was actually nerve wrecking and embarrassing. Miss "follow the rules" got upset getting on the bus for the ride home-- as the teachers said everyone should sit where they sat on the trip to the farm. Well, a few people swapped seats, good reasons--- 1 little boy wanted to sit with his Mom, etc..... Anyhow...this in P's head was the end of the world. Her 2 friends sat where WE sat. I couldn't fit in with her, but offered to sit in front of her. Oh no. She lost it, completely. Tears, howling, wouldn't move while everyone is trying to get by her to sit. Oh yea! And there wasn't any seats left where we could BOTH fit (remember, I am no skinny girl..:-P). Finally, a fellow mom offered to have her daughter sit across from her, and she'd scoot in with P's 2 friends, and we could have her seat. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Of course Paige was so embarrassed by her meltdown, it took her most of the bus ride home to recover.....and I was pretty embarrassed and irritated at this point.
Other than the meltdowns, the trip was fun. Kids were decent....we saw Emus, Donkeys, Llamas, pigs (and a HUGE Mama pig!) many bulls, pet GIANT bunnies, a baby sheep & baby goat, and held baby chicks. They had "song time" in the barn, and we had a picnic lunch in the play area. The weather was overcast and drizzly, but we made the best of it!
