Skating 101...

Once again...every day this week I conjure up blog-worthy stuff...but then when i sit down to type it out....either work happens......kid happens.....laziness happens...or facebook ransacks my brain.

Anyhow....

Took the munchkin out to the local park today to teach her how to skate for the first time! She was so excited. I used to be a hardcore rollerblader.... so this is right up my alley. However, it's been a good 5 years since I have been in my skates-- and i broke them today as well. Chaulk it up to my legs being too fat, or maybe....just maybe....the plastic on the clasps wore out from not being used for 5 years? Yea...lets say that is the reason *sigh*.

Anyhow... got her all geared up....elbow & knee pads, skates, helmet. Too cute-- all in pink. She trucked right out there and over to the pavement and gave it her best!

I will call her attempts more like "skate walking" rather than "rollerskating". Hehe. I tried to show her to glide side to side...but I think her trainer skates dont allow for much "gliding"... so she continued with her skate walking.....giving it an occasional slide forward. She was so proud of herself and I was too. She even trash talked me while I was getting my skates on...telling me she was a better skater than Mommy and that she was gonna kick my butt. Hah! I may have been super shaky...but i whizzed right past her. ;-) ... Yea....I know...im sooo mature! ;-)

She did great...until she made the move we've all made at least once on skates. You know the one. One foot goes too far forward....you panic and try to regain your balance..but up slips the other foot.. you go slightly airborne.... and WHAM....you land FLAT ON YOUR ASS. Ow. Pain shoots right up your tailbone. Yea....we've all done it. It's embarrassing and hurts like hell. Poor girl. She didnt like that...and cried...rightfully so in my lap for a few minutes. I did get her to laugh tho when I suggested we invent a "butt pad" to wear when people skate. ;-)

She lost steam shortly after the fall...and quickly changed into complainer mode-- so we packed up shortly after and headed back home.

I do miss skating-- i used to love it so. Seriously. It was my life for many years. I have the scars & cracked thumb to prove it.

I do need new skates now tho. Those ones were...hmmm... 14 years old? Yea...i guess they were old.... Damn. Was I 15 14 years ago? Holy crap....
