BOY!!!!
On Wednesday, May 5th, we learned how our family dynamics would change. The three of us went out to Friendlys for lunch....then met at the hospital for my anatomy ultrasound. Paige was so excited, and ate a big bowl of ice cream while we waited to be seen! (after-thought...BIG MISTAKE....dont sugar up a kid before going into a dim room then expect then to SIT STILL....oops). Anyhow, I felt like I was gonna pee myself with my 32 oz of water......and the inital scan luckily went quick and the tech let me get up and empty some of my bladder before I literally EXPLODED.
The tech was rather harsh and cold initially. It was like she was frustrated and reading from a script. Sit here, dont look there. The screen will turn on momentarily. I will tell you near the end of the scan if you want to know. Do you want to know? (YES!). I understand her job is important and she needs to pay attention to the small details, but her lack of personality was lame.
Mike sat next to me and attempted to keep Paige tamed. She hopped, she bounced, she tried singing songs. "Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!". LOL. Waiting for the initial scan, which I couldnt watch was tedious and nerve wrecking! I understand they do it in private for protection- to ensure baby is all there before putting it on the big screen.
Then the big screen Tv in front of us powered up....and tada! There was a squirmy lil baby before us!! Initially we were looking bottom up...and I swore I saw a little "something", but didnt say anything, cause I wasnt sure if maybe it was the cord or something.
We saw his heart, his brain, spine, bladder, etc.... all looking great! Paige had to go to the bathroom mid-way thru-- while in there, I reached my hand out and Mike held it. A "moment" we much needed. Sadly, when Paige came out...she saw us holding hands and was confused-- she's never seen us hold hands before (how sad is that?!). Anyhow...we ALL held my hand for a moment while we saw his big ol' belly...and arms moving around. Then back down to the legs......and boom! There he was, legs wide open..... boy parts for all to see! NO DOUBT what-so-ever. He's apparently as proud as proud can be. LOL. That's my boy! ;-) (and oddly, the tech came to life from here on out and was actually smiling and chatty!).
The tech puts the lil arrow right on his stuff and begins to type "B O Y Parts".... and I immediatly welled right up and almost started to cry! I couldnt believe it! If you remember my panic last month about having a boy and all the boy dreams....I guess they were for a reason! I looked at Mike, who was grinning a little but shocked and of course I say "Hah! Mommy was RIGHT for once!" LOL. Yea, smug, just a bit. Hehe. We giggled....I cried a few tears of joy....then we told Paige, whom was jumping around the room some more.
"Do you know what the baby is?"
"Yes, a BABY!"
(laughs from everyone in the room)
"No honey.... you're gonna have a BROTHER....the baby is a BOY!"
"Ummm...but I asked for a SISTER!"
"well, sorry kiddo.....he's a BOY!"
Hehe. We then watched him stretching his legs and toes.....and got some profile pics as well as a a few shots of him rubbing his eyes! What a cutie pie! He has the most perfect lil round head...and the same lil nose & cheeks as his big sister. I instantly fell. in.love.
Mike and I took turns chatting with Paige about the pros of having a baby brother vs. a sister. He'll have a lot of his OWN boy toys.... and she now gets to stay our ONLY GIRL. Our "girls only" adventures can stay just the 2 of us....and he can go hang out with Daddy. She gets to remain Mommy's baby girl and Daddy's little girl. THAT she dug, and is all about her lil brother now.
She insisted on bringing one of the u/s pictures to school the next day to show him off (and I made sure she didnt choose the pics of her brother's crotch...LOL!). She's told everyone and is so pumped.
We are too. :-)
