Yea... recap our summer adventures so far this past week...
Paige ripped her big toe open at a local baseball game last week. She was running across the grass behind the bleachers with 2 friends when she accidently caught her foot on a bolt sticking out of the base of the bleachers. Cue blood. Cue screams. I was face painting children at the time when she ran up to me, screaming bloody murder, and she showed me her blood covered foot. My heart lept, but I immediatly swallowed it so she wouldnt freak even more. A coworker agreed to watch Dylan while I picked up and ran off with my 50 lb sobbing 5 yr old. First aid kit wasnt gonna cut it. EMT grabbed her and a bunch of screams and cries, and being pacified by a ring-pop later.... she was back together, cleaned up and bandaged. Poor kid. She is OK now...toe looks a bit ick...but it's healing.
Going through yet again another bridezilla summer. Awesomeness. Makes me hate weddings more and more. Seriously. Apparently, life happens anytime...but they are only getting married ONCE. Yep.
And on that note, against my gut feelings and judgement...which I swallowed down and just shut my mouth after being basically called selfish (i dont want to fight with people anymore, especially in-laws)..... Mike agreed to bring the kids 2 hours away, leaving at 8am on Saturday morning after only 4 hours of sleep so Paige could get fitted for a dress. (Me saying she is a size 7, which she is, and was was not enough... ). I would have brought them...but I had to be at a big work event at 10am that morning.
I got a call from Mike, while at work at 11:30am.
"Hi....I just totalled my truck."
"OH MY GOD. Are you serious? Is everyone OK? WHERE are you?"
"Yes, everyone is OK. Im not sure where we are....Paige is pretty upset, but is ok at the moment, she's sitting on the grass having a snack right now."
Heart back in throat. Stunned. Shaking. "Im leaving now, Ill come get you guys". Where I was going, I had no clue...all I knew was drive South to Mass.... I left work in shock and drove an hour before I finally got a hold of him again and got an exact location.
Whats done is done. Truck might be repairable, though it still sits in a towing parking lot, 2 hours away from us. EVERYONE IS OK. Thats all that matters. Everyone is OK.
What sucks? We have a $500 deductible. Never occured to us to lower it, as we have NEVER used it. Ever. Plus, since Mike rear ended the other guy....he is cited "at fault", and therefore personal effects will not be covered...that includes our 2 carseats.
So you're telling me, that the insurance company won't cover 2 items that properly harness the children, which caused them to be 100% ok? Without those 2 seats, they would most likely be covering their huge medical bills.
Yep. Thats correct. I have spoken to 2 claims specialists too, that were not a part of our insurance company. They totally sympathized with me and agreed that the medical vs. carseat thing is ridiculous, but rules are standard rules.
*Sigh*.
Good bye savings, goodbye home repairs, good bye fall-back money to help cushion my pay cut in September.
Everything happens for a reason though. Right? RIGHT?
Reason it now, bitches! LOL!
In all seriousness though... we are fine and will truck through this too. We feel blessed that no one was injured and hugged our kids extra tight this weekend!
