Welcome to Ice Land!

Want to see something pretty stunning? Remember...this is NOT snow. No. NO SNOW. The white you see everywhere is ICE. PURE PURE. It's beautiful....yet devastating at the same time!

A guy at the local newspaper put together this short film of footage, along with some pics of people at the area shelters.

I was out working for the American Red Cross on Saturday....we were stationed outside in the Sears parking lot, right across from a Citgo station. All day we witnessed a constant line at the fuel pumps & propane tanks. People lined up for hours to get propane & fuel for their homes & generators. All the home improvement stores sold out of generators as of Friday evening. It's now Monday, and there are STILL people without power and water (most people around here have well water). Scary stuff.

Mike & I are VERY thankful! Our power flickered once Thursday night during the height of the store...but stayed on. Phew.

It's now Monday, and 40 degrees out. Most of the ice is melting...thankfully....tho the rivers that are taking all the thaw are about ready to jump their banks! I did have 2 detours on my way to work, due to power lines that are still down. Poor PSNH workers...they must be EXHAUSTED! You see them EVERYWHERE.....(like that pic right there)...

In other news, our weekend was productive. I worked 9a-2p on Saturday in the frigid cold....came home...and Mike was in the midst of re-doing my office computer at home (it was in rough shape). I took the opportunity to begin cleaning out my junk in the office. Its gross how much junk can accumulate! I found bill statements and paperwork from like 3 years ago. Its still got a long way to go...but i got thru a few piles and filed all of this year's stmts. Someday we'll have that room under control!

Saturday night we treated ourselves to Chinese Food in Brattleboro. Yum! Paige was her usual comical self in the restaurant. On the way home we stopped to get milk, then saw a "drive thru Nativity Scene"...it was free, and put on by the local church. Now, we're definetly NOT a religious family.....but still....appreciate the story of Christmas...so we checked it out. It was cute. We gave the church a lil donation...which i found out later went to the local shelter group (cool).

Sunday we cleaned up the house.... Mike worked on Paige's bed some more...and then we re-arranged her room, in preparation of the new bed. Hopefully it will be done next weekend. She will be going from a toddler/crib mattress to a full-size bed! How exciting!

Last night after she went to bed.... we got all the toys Jenn gave us ...put batteries in, cleaned stuff up...and wrapped everything! Its nice to feel more "ready" for the holidays!
